Join Young Wilders for a day of hands-on nature restoration at our youth-led rewilding project in Monmouthshire, Wales!
-
Who is this for: If you live locally, are 18-30 and want to feel closer to nature and learn more about it. (You do not have to study or work in something environment-related!)
-
About The Grange: Youngwilder’s youth-led rewilding project sits on 31 acres of grassland and woodland, and is part of the wider Grange Project - definitely check them out.
-
What we’re doing there: This is our first event at the Grange Project, so we’re seriously excited to get stuck into some practical nature recovery goodness to improve biodiversity on this ex-silage field*.
We’ll be filling in gaps in our hedgerows between the ancient oaks, to benefit bats and birds, whilst in the fields we’ll introduce new, native tree species that likely wouldn’t arrive via natural regeneration.
But we won’t only be planting trees! We need to protect these vulnerable little pioneers from hungry roe deer, so we’ll create piles of dead branches and thorny scrub around the saplings to act as natural tree guards.
*Silage is when you use your field to grow grass to feed it to livestock, not great for biodiversity…
