Set up a group in your area
How to find local groups and actions
To set up a local group, head to the Find a local group topic in the Community Space.
To help people find your local group, start your post with a title in this format:
[Location] Action title / Group chat
Start with location tags: Begin your topic title with a generic location tag, such as [Central London], [North East Manchester], or [Edinburgh]. Enclose your location tag in square brackets to enhance visibility.
Specify action or purpose: Immediately after the location tag, describe the action or purpose of your group. For instance, “[Liverpool] Litter pick at Albert Dock” or “[Newcastle] DIY eco-crafts festival”. Be concise but informative.
Keep chit-chat in a group chat: You can set this up by creating “[Bristol] Group chat for Green Warriors”, or simply “[Nottingham] Group chat”.
Sharing your location safely
Keep the details non-specific
When sharing your location, keep it to a large area with lots of people and schools. For example, it’s okay to say you live in “Central London,” but would be a little too specific if you said you lived in Buckingham Palace.
Don’t use your village or town name
If you live in a village or small town, use the nearest city or large town instead. For example, Eleven from Stranger Things wouldn’t say “Hawkins”, but instead that she’s near "Middletown”.
Keep clues about your location secret
Strict rule! Never spill details about your school, exact address, or local borough. Keep it hush-hush! This includes not sharing your favourite local hangouts and routes that you travel often.
